US denies allegations of wanting to build military base in SL

The United States has rejected false press reports that claim that America is interested in building a military base in Sri Lanka.

US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Alaina Teplitz insists that the US have no plans of establishing military power in Sri Lanka.

In a Facebook chat hosted by the US Embassy in Colombo, Teplitz commented that she “keeps reading press reports about American interest in establishing a military base in Sri Lanka. Let me tell you directly: this is just false.”

However, she added that due to the security threat in Sri Lanka following the Easter Sunday attacks, the US hopes to work closely with Sri Lanka on security issues, including counter-terrorism, in the future.
