The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which is under the Department of Health and Human Services of the US, has categorized Sri Lanka of having ‘Very High Level of COVID-19.’ The CDC said it revised the Travel Health Notice system on November 21 for COVID-19 and released new recommendations for testing before and after international air travel. Accordingly, selected countries have been placed under the categories of Level 4: Very High, Level 3: High, Level 2: Moderate, Level 1: Low and Level unknown. The revised travel notice for Sri Lanka said travelers should avoid all travel to Sri Lanka as travel may increase the chance of contracting COVID-19. “Travelers should avoid all travel to Sri Lanka. If you must travel, talk to your doctor ahead of travel, especially if you are at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19. Get tested with a viral test 1–3 days before your trip, keep a copy of your results with you during travel. “Do not travel if your test result is positive; immediately isolate yourself, and follow public health recommendations,” some of the instructions outlined in the notice said. The CDC has placed a large number of countries in the ‘Level 4: Very High’ category while it has placed countries like Barbados, Mauritius, Seychelles and South Korea in ‘Level 2: Moderate’ category. Australia, Cambodia, China, Fiji, Hong Kong, Laos, Mongolia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and several other countries have been categorized as ‘Level 1: Low’ risk countries.
