US MCC Compact: US officials to be questioned?

The committee appointed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to study and make recommendations on the proposed Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact of the US will look to question US officials involved in the agreement proposed with Sri Lanka, The Sunday Morning learnt. The MCC Review Committee, chaired by Prof. Lalithasiri Gunaruwan, has already recorded statements from local and foreign officials involved with the MCC agreement. The committee expects to complete the task within four months as outlined by the Government. Speaking to The Sunday Morning, Prof. Gunaruwan said interviews, written submissions, reviews, as well as video footage of the forums conducted with regard to the MCC agreement would also be reviewed by the committee. The four-member committee was appointed to study the conditions of the proposed MCC agreement and make recommendations on the merits and demerits of the agreement. The official committee chaired by Prof. Gunaruwan comprises former Transport Ministry Secretary D.S. Jayaweera, Attorney Nihal Jayawardana PC, and Nalaka Jayaweera. – Maheesha Mudugamuwa
