US to provide US$ 39 million to develop Sri Lanka’s maritime security

11 Oct 2018

US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Alice Wells says that the US will provide US$ 39 million to support Sri Lanka’s maritime security sector.

“As an initial element of our Bay of Bengal Initiative, the US will provide US$ 39 million to support Sri Lanka’s efforts to enhance its coastal maritime radar system and provide training and equipment for improved surveillance, response, and interdiction,” Wells has said.

She has made this observation this morning at the “The Indian Ocean, Defining Our Future,” conference in Colombo.

“Through the Infrastructure Transaction and Assistance Network, the US will identify commercially viable projects and work with host governments to address regulatory, capacity, and other barriers to their successful completion,” she has added.

“The U.S. welcomes the opportunity to work with all of our partners to create an Indo-Pacific region in which each nation is, to echo President Trump, ‘strong, prosperous, and self-reliant,’” Wells has added.
