Voter registry to substitute for land deed in Grade 1 admissions

The parents’ names in the voter registry, certified by the Grama Niladhari of the area can substitute for a land deed when admitting a child for school, Minister of Mass Media Keheliya Rambukwella stated at the Cabinet media briefing held today (29).

He emphasized the on-going problem of children in the vicinity of a particular school unable to be admitted due to the inability to provide a land deed, as 20 marks were being deducted in the evaluation.

A circular on the official decision was presented by the Minister of Education G. L. Peiris for the Cabinet’s consideration, following which was decided that a certified voter registry consisting of the parents’ names can substitute for a land deed.
