The appeal was made Friday afternoon, as revealed by the SLC, following a meeting the SLC Executive Committee had with the Sports Minister. New Zealand will be here for a two-match Test series plus a three-match T20I series that will go on till 6 September. Coaching staff Sri Lanka’s coaching staff, including its beleaguered Head Coach Chandika Hathurusingha, has been asked to resign, it was reported earlier. Criticism on their performances soared following a dark patch in the last couple of years which culminated in the first-round exit of Sri Lanka in the recent World Cup in England. Sri Lanka’s current Batting Coach is Jon Lewis and their Fielding Coach is Steve Rixon. Lewis, 49, is from England and is a former first-class batsman representing counties, Durham and Essex from 1990-2006. The 65-year-old Rixon is former wicketkeeper-batsman who played 13 Tests and six ODIs for Australia, between 1977 and 1985. Another Interim? There were reports earlier that Fernando was to meet ICC Chairman Shashank Manohar to make a request from the present head of the the sport’s governing body to allow Sri Lanka to appoint an interim administration in place of the present SLC, under Shammi Silva who won SLC AGM last February beating a strong opposition which consisted administrative stalwarts in the calibre of Jayantha Dharmadasa, Nishantha Ranatunga, Arjuna Ranatunga, and S. Mathivanan. ICC allows its member nations to run their cricket under interim administrations, rather than by elected bodies, under special circumstances. Interim in place of BCCI The Indian cricket board too, named BCCI, is currently run by an interim administration headed by Vinod Rai, who is former Auditor General of India (the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, or CAG) and an icon of India’s anti corruption movement in recent times. Rai heads an interim administration which also includes Indian historian Ramachandra Guha, banker Vikaram Limaye and former Captain of the Indian women’s cricket team Diana Edulji. They look after the BCCI administration until formal elections are held.
