Waters Edge recently launched their apprenticeship programme that is aimed at developing individuals from various regions of Sri Lanka towards achieving their dreams. The Waters Edge Food and Beverage Excellence Programme is especially curated for the developing youth who have passion for modern food and beverage service excellence, and who will be able to enrich the customers with exemplary service. This programme is fully certified by the National Vocational and Training Institute of Sri Lanka, and after completion, the apprentices will receive the NVQ Level 4.
Speaking to Assistant Manager – Marketing Nipun Bandara on the objective of the programme, he commented: “The main objective of the programme is to develop future professionals for the hospitality industry in terms of culinary services (kitchen operations), and food and beverage services.” He further added that Waters Edge is committed to develop Michelin-Star chefs and hospitality industry experts by developing youth to pursue professional careers.

The duration of the apprenticeship programme will span over years with a well-articulated syllabus including all relevant competencies required to be future hospitality professionals. The apprentices will go through a comprehensive on-the-job training for two years on modern food and beverage techniques and service excellence.
Bandara added that Waters Edge has many industry experts who have been working at some of the best international chains of hotels, and their chefs have won many gold medals from the international Culinary Olympics and other renowned international competitions. These apprentices that are to take part in the programme will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be trained and work under these experts and they will receive best-in-class knowledge infusion.
Speaking on why youths should choose this particular programme to further their career, he added: “Apprentices will be trained under the Director – Operations, Director – Food and Beverage (F&B) Operations, and Head of Banquet Operations who are industry specialists with adequate overseas exposure with star-class international chains of hotels.”
For those who secure a merit pass in the final evaluation, employment opportunity is guaranteed within the Waters Edge Group, which consists of many hospitality ventures. A training allowance will also be paid during the apprentice programme, explained Bandara.
