The Cabinet yesterday approved to develop the West Container Terminal (WCT) as a public-private partnership among Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ Consortium), its local representative John Keels Holdings and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA).
The Terminal is to be developed on Build, Operate,Transfer basis for a period of thirty five years, the government said.
The proposal by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ Consortium) to work on the WCT was also approved by the Indian High Commission following a plan approved by the Negotiating committee.
The plan has been presented to the Indian High Commission and the Japanese Embassy.
However, it was revealed that no investor has been named by the Japanese Government yet.
The Cabinet approval was granted on the 01st February to develop the WCT in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and parties nominated by the Indian and Japanese government
