Education Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris stated that it is important for Sri Lankans as a country to stand united against the UN Resolutions at Geneva to save war heroes and safeguard the country's independence as well as sovereignty. He was addressing a conference of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Colombo District Bar Association at the Water’s Edge Hotel in Battaramulla. Speaking further the Minister said, "Less than 12 hours after the resolution was passed, applications had been called for 13 new posts for the mechanism to find out about Sri Lanka. Further, the same report states that the evidence presented will not be allowed to be seen for 20 years. It hides it all. Trying to act on what comes out of the mouths of people who have no face and no voice. This is not fair." He stated that even the opposition should stand up for the country, “Responding to a similar question posed by the media, Dr. Harsha de Silva, a Member of Parliament for the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, commented that everything in these reports should be revealed to us advocating for transparency. Yes, even the opposition should stand up for the country. We must all work together to tackle this problem." During his address to the lawyers, the minister said, “I believe that you have a unique role to play as lawyers. You are a very independent part of the society. You have the ability to guide the necessary changes in the legal system of our country. Now is the time to make, edit or change laws that have not been in place for 10 years,"
