We will be the ultimate victor: SJB

By Skandha Gunasekara

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) asserted that the party would be the ultimate victor as it is a young party contesting the election.

“I think SJB will be happy with either result because it was the shortest time that a political party emerged with a new symbol and convinced voters that they are one of the biggest forces to be reckoned with. Therefore, we are quite happy with the feedback we’re getting and the voter turnout. We were trying to defeat one group which follows family bandism and another party with dictatorship which is constantly losing – so we’re trying to beat two groups even though we’ve existed for quite a short time,” SJB stalwart and former parliamentarian Harin Fernando told The Morning.

However, he said it was too early to make predictions about how many seats they would attain in Parliament.

“It’s too early for me to comment. We practised the principle of a free and fair election where people are not forced to side with one party and we want to see how the people have chosen. Either way, we are the victors because we’re a party that is just emerging, compared to the UNP (United National Party) which has been there from the start and the SLPP (Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna) which is governing the country.”
