Welfare of Sri Lankans ensured by UAE government - Sri Lankan Embassy

11 Apr 2020

The Sri Lankan Embassy in UAE in a press statement today confirmed that welfare of Sri Lankan nationals has been ensured by the UAE government. "Sri Lankan nationals who test positive to COVID-19 are taken to hospitals and quarantine centres which are well managed and have a high-quality standard. " The statement comes after an individual claiming to be a Sri Lankan national appealed for help on social media saying no proper treatment was given to him by UAE authorities even though he had tested positive for the COVID-19. The Sri Lanka Embassy said it had noted a few video clips circulating on social media which on verification were found to be factually incorrect. "Please kindly verify reports from either the Sri Lanka Embassy or the Sri Lanka Consulate General Office, prior to circulation." "The Sri Lanka Embassy, Sri Lanka Consulate General Office together with the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau, welfare organizations and other community and religious organisations are also assisting with the distribution of dry rations and other necessities to Sri Lankan nationals." "The Government of Sri Lanka appreciates the role played by the Government of the United Arab Emirates to assist Sri Lankan nationals in the UAE," Sri Lankan Embassy in UAE added.
