Bus services out of Province suspended
National Operations Centre for Prevention of Covid-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Head and Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva said last night (11) that those in the Western Province were prohibited from travelling outside the province with immediate effect.
This directive is effective until midnight on Sunday (15), the Head of the NOCPCO said.
Meanwhile, all passenger bus services were suspended from leaving the Western Province till midnight on 15 November, and buses from other areas were requested not to enter the Province till then, said State Minister of Bus Transport Services Dilum Amunugama.

Accordingly, no one will be allowed to leave the Western Province during this period.
Earlier yesterday, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa instructed officials to take the necessary steps to prevent movement from the Western Province – where the majority of the Covid-19 infections were identified – to other parts of the country, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.
At the daily meeting of the Covid-19 Task Force held at the Presidential Secretariat last morning, President Rajapaksa gave these instructions after taking into consideration the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the Western Province.
The task force members discussed at length the current situation of Covid-19 – its spread and control – as well as the aspects that needed to be studied to control future viral diseases, to ensure the health and safety of the people.
