04 May 2021

Co-Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said that the World Health Organization (WHO) is also concerned about the shortage of vaccines and hopes that this problem will be resolved in the future.
He was speaking at a media briefing at the Government Information Department today (04). The Minister further reminded that the conditions of the Indian company and the brand that manufactured the vaccine at the time of delivery of the first dose to our country was very different from today as they had promised to supply our country with the required dose of vaccines to complete the second dose. In addition, there are reports of some countries having surpluses after being vaccinated with the Covshield vaccine and discussions are underway with those countries as to whether it is possible for our country to purchase the surplus vaccine quantity as an instant purchase. He said the World Health Organization (WHO) was monitoring the situation and was investigating whether the first dose could be taken in one form and the second dose in another. The Minister said that a follow up would be carried out on these two situations and hoped that a solution could be derived given the ongoing situation.
