The 'Meenagaya’ train, was on its way to Colombo from Batticaloa when it hit the jumbo yesterday night, as it was crossing the tracks between Welikanda and Manampitiya.
The Colombo-bound train had derailed as a result of the accident, according to Sri Lanka Railway.
As a result Railway services on Batticaloa-Polonnaruwa railway line have been disrupted since last night (10) due to a derailment.
In a previous incident the 'Meenagaya’ train had hit two jumbos at Palugaswewa in June this year resulting in the death of 1 jombo.
