Will vote for MR and stay independent - Welgama

08 Nov 2018

UPFA MP Kumara Welgama says he would vote in support of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in parliament, but would remain independent afterwards.

Welgama has told the media that although he is happy with Rajapaksa’s appointment as Prime Minister, he did not approve the manner in which it was done.

He has noted that the appointment of the Prime Minister should have been done according to the Constitution.

“We have a Constitution. We need to act accordingly. We should have shown that Mahinda Rajapaksa has 113 numbers,” Welgama has said.

“I don’t like this system. I will vote to show Mahinda Rajapaksa’s 113 majority. I cannot accept portfolios from this group. It is better to be independent,” he has added.
