The All blacks kicked off 2021 season with a huge 102-0 win against Tonga on Saturday (3). The 16-try fest had five tries from Will Jordan and three from half-back Brad Webber. Tonga fielded 13 debutants in the match due to their national players being stuck in Europe due to the pandemic.

* South Africa 40 - 9 Georgia

South Africa took time to shrug off the rust as they returned after a 20-month absence to beat Georgia 40-9 at Loftus Versfeld on Friday (2) in their first Test since winning the 2019 World Cup. The match was the first of two warm-up internationals against the Georgians in preparation for the three-Test series against the British & Irish Lions later this month. Boks scored three tries each on both halves with debutant Aphelele Fassi, Bongi Mbonambi, Cobus Reinach, Kwagga Smith, Herschel Jantjies, and Malcolm Marx finding the whitewash.

* Māori All Blacks 38 - 21 Manu Samoa

Māori All Blacks beat Samoa 38-21 in the Steinlager Series on Saturday. The native Kiwis started off slowly but tries from Jonah Lowe (2), Sean Wainui, and Skipper Ash Dixon, to go with two penalty tries either side of break, earned them the win. Samoa was always in the game but the two penalty tries and having to play with 14-men for 20 minutes proved to be their downfall.

* Ireland 39 - 31 Japan

Ireland held on to a narrow 39-31 win over Japan in Ireland on also Saturday. Three tries from Chris Farrell, Stuart McCloskey, and Finlay Bealham for Ireland against two tries from Micheal Leitch and Timothy Lafaele, gave the hosts a 19-17 lead going into lemons.

Siosaia Fifita touched down after the break as Japan came out all guns blazing. It was tit-for-tat as Josh van der Flier then got an Ireland try followed by Jacob Stockdale’s try gave Ireland a comfortable lead. A late surge saw a try from Naoto Saito to keep Japan in the game. However, minutes before the final whistle Joey Carbery shot a penalty to seal the win for the hosts.

* Wales 68 - 12 Canada

Wales had a walk in the park against Canada as they beat them by 68 points to 12 at the Principality Stadium. Wales in their first Test match of the summer scored 10 tries, with Callum Sheedy adding 14 points from the tee. Tomos Williams, Jonah Holmes, and debutant Taine Basham all crossed the whitewash twice, while there were first caps for Tom Rogers, Ben Carter, Gareth Thomas, and Ben Thomas. The only setback for the Welsh in the game was the devastating blow to Leigh Halfpenny, who was forced off following an injury just 30 seconds into his 100th Test match with a suspected ACL injury or a tear or sprain of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament.

* Argentina 24 - 17 Romania

Argentina held on to a narrow 24-17 win over hosts Romania in their Test in Bucharest on Saturday. Hooker Eugen Capatana scored the only try for Romania after Argentina had gone over three times in the first half with Rodrigo Bruni, Santiago Cordero, and a penalty try just before halftime. Romania’s full-back Lonel Melinte brought the scores level through four penalties before debutant flanker Juan Martin Gonzalez scored the winner after coming on as second half substitute.

Argentina now travel to Cardiff to take on Wales in two Tests over the next fortnight. Romania were due to host Scotland next week but that match has been cancelled because of positive Covid-19 cases in the Scotland.

* British & Irish Lions 56 - 14 Emirates Lions

Warren Gatland’s side ran in eight tries as they geared themselves in preparation to face the world champions South Africa in few weeks’ times. Josh Adams, who marked his Lions debut with a try against Japan last Saturday, stole the headlines by crossing over for four tries, all in the second half, while Louis Rees-Zammit and Hamish Watson also scored on their first appearances for the tourists.

* England 43 - 29 USA

England Head Coach Eddie Jones named a team that saw eight debutants in the starting 15, including Skipper Lewis Ludlow, the first man since Nigel Melville in 1984 to captain England on debut, and a further four uncapped players among the replacements.
