Yue Chuan at the Kingsbury serves Cantonese and Szechuan specialities, and the restaurant prides itself in having an offering of both authentic and fusion style Chinese dishes to suit just about anyone’s palette.

With an open kitchen concept, you can see for yourself how the food gets prepared and the touch of authenticity that comes with chefs who are of the culture with their roots in the cuisine.
A key highlight at Yue Chuan is its flexibility in making dishes that will transport you to China and create a replica experience of authentic Szechuan specialities while also offering an entirely different menu for those of us Lankans who wish to taste the familiarity of home in our meals. Despite having two menus; the Sri Lankan Fusion Menu and the Cantonese Szechuan Menu, the incredibly streamlined and carefully curated line up of dishes make it simple enough to explore and select what you really want.
While the menu is extensive, we were able to decide on a few key highlights thanks to some recommendations – we were happy enough with our choices, and if you are wondering what to get first, perhaps these can serve as a starting off point.

We tried out a number of dishes including the double fried pork belly with chilli bean sauce, sweet and sour chicken, clay pot eggplant in chilli sauce, and a number of seafood dishes to round up the meal. We opted to go with steamed rice to pair our mains, and this is a pro tip if you really want to taste the flavours of each individual dish, considering how fried rice and noodles will pair the flavours and create something a little different.
The food was incredibly pleasant and if you have a taste for Chinese cuisine then Yue Chuan is a place you do not want to miss. The flavours, as expected, are distinct and enhanced considering the different techniques utilised to prepare certain dishes, especially the clay pot eggplant in chilli sauce which was a nice surprise, and something fresh that we’ve not tried before. We must also make a special mention of the double fried pork belly, as it was simply delicious, seasoned and cooked to perfection with the meat melting in your mouth despite the slight crunch.

Despite having stuffed ourselves, following a nice little palette cleanse with the customary green tea, we moved on to some dessert, excited at the chance of finally having fried ice cream with strawberry sauce and a bit of mango mousse with mango ice cream. The desserts were quite perfect and if you have a sweet tooth, especially after having a hefty meal, the light airy desserts are a perfect follow-up to a great meal.

Yue Chuan also offers two private dining spaces perfect for corporate events and intimate dinners, to enjoy expertly prepared cuisine in a private dining setting.
Yue Chuan is open for lunch (12 p.m. to 3 p.m.) and dinner (6.30 p.m. to 11 p.m.) with their à la carte menu.
