14-year old boy passes A/L

BY Buwanajee Coralage    The results of the 2021 General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level (A/L) examination were released online on Sunday (28) through the Department of Examinations website and the students who recorded the best results in each stream are listed below, out of which a 14-year-old student, named Dewum Sanahas Ranasinghe, passed the A/L examination. Sahan Yasanka Samarakoon of Royal College Colombo ranked first in the island under the Physical Science stream. Thamilvannan Thuwarajesh of St. Michael’s College, Batticaloa is ranked first the Biological Science stream while Ishini Neha Amararatne of Ratnavali Balika Vidyalaya, Gampaha has been ranked first in the island in the Commerce stream. Ishara Lakmal Heenkenda of Kendagolla Maha Vidyalaya in Badulla had been successful at obtaining island first rank under the Arts stream with Neranda Dilhara Kumarasinghe of Mayurapada Central College in Narammala scored the island’s first in the Technology stream. Isuri Pabasara Lokupathirage of Devi Balika Vidyalaya Colombo ranked first in Bio Systems Technology stream.  Furthermore, a 14-year-old boy was successful in facing the GCE A/L Examinations this year scoring three “B” passes in the Commerce stream. Dewum Sanahas Ranasinghe, a resident of Kadawatha has successfully faced and passed the examination at the age of 14, said to have reached this special achievement after preparing for the examination for a short period of five months. He had previously faced the GCE Ordinary Level Examination while studying in Grade 8, passing it with five “A” passes, two “B” passes and one “C” pass. Ranasinghe said that he hopes to complete his education aiming to become a lawyer while aiming to achieve his goal of becoming a cricketer. Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardana also congratulated the students who passed the GCE A/Ls, while offering his best wishes to all those who sat for the examination.  “I offer my sincere congratulations to the students who qualified for university admission after determined success amidst numerous hardships. I also offer my best wishes to those who attempted to reach this goal unsuccessfully and assure them we would be with them in their endeavours to reach victory in their selected spheres” he said in the congratulatory message. Furthermore he expressed that it is his ardent wish to see these students who enter universities commit themselves for the progress and prosperity of the motherland.
