15 year old beaten to death by father for not studying

A 15-year-old boy from the Mahamodara area in Galle has died after being beaten by his father with a broomstick. The father of the boy is reported to have beaten the boy with a broomstick on Wednesday (29). The reason as to why the father had beaten the minor was because he was not concentrating on his online lectures which was conducted by his school. The boy who had suffered head injuries after the beating, had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Karapitya Hospital and succumbed to his injuries yesterday (30). The Morning spoke to the Galle division Officer in Charge who stated that the incident was reported by the hospital after the boy was brought into hospital. "The boy was brought to hospital by the mother. Upon admission at the Karapitiya ICU, the boy was in a critical state and was unconscious. He never regained consciousness,' stated Galle acting OIC Hewa Wedage Ubaykumara. The 49-year-old father who was arrested over the incident has been remanded until the 13th of October after being produced before the Galle Magistrate’s Court today. The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) condemned the incident during a media briefing held yesterday (30), with The Chairman of the NCPA Professor Muditha Vidanapathirana saying that physically reprimanding a child was wrong and is unacceptable.
