In an effort to maintain sufficient buffer stocks of rice which will ensure that a shortage of rice in the local market will not occur, the Cabinet has approved a proposal tabled by the Minister of Trade to import 20,000 metric tons of rice from Myanmar.
Accordingly, the import of the same will take place through a Government Agreement between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Government of Myanmar at a cost of US dollar 460 per metric ton.
This transaction will be facilitated through the Sri Lanka State Trading Corporation.
