A meeting between the Election Commission (EC) members and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was held yesterday (17) at the Presidential Secretariat to discuss the issues regarding the upcoming parliamentary election, The Morning learnt.
EC Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya together with the other two members, Nalin Abeysekera PC and Prof. Ratnajeevan Hoole, participated in the meeting with the President.
However, Elections Secretariat Director General Saman Sri Ratnayake was not invited for the meeting.
In addition to the EC officials, the Public Administration Ministry, Health Ministry, and Sri Lanka Police officials participated in the discussion.
When contacted by The Morning, Ministry of Public Administration Secretary J.J. Ratnasiri, who participated in the discussion, said the meeting had been sought by the EC to discuss the issues pertaining to the election.
According to him, the discussion was focused on the election procedure.
