Sri Lanka Navy had conducted a special operation in the seas off Sillalai, Jaffna yesterday (28) and recovered over 240kg of Kerala cannabis.
The Kerala cannabis was concealed in 105 packages, stuffed in 07 sacks inside a shrimp farming enclosure.
The Navy suspects that smugglers had concealed the cannabis in the shrimp farming enclosure due to the continuous operations carried out by the Navy in the area.
The street value of the recovered stock of Kerala cannabis is believed to be over Rs. 72 million.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the operation was carried out adhering to COVID-19 protocols.
The Navy has stated that the stock of cannabis has been destroyed by incineration.
