Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya confirmed that 31 persons have placed deposits at the commission for the upcoming elections by 4 pm today.
Deshapriya was speaking at the Youth First summit held in Colombo.
He further stated that this is the highest number of candidates that have been registered in the Presidential Elections history of the country.
The deadline to place deposits is on Monday 7 October and the commission is positive that the amount of candidates would reach at least 35.
