40% teacher attendance, and 20% student attendance: Colombo Zonal Education office

22 Oct 2021

With schools with less than 200 students resuming classes, only 40% of teachers had arrived to the school premises and 20% of the total student count had attended classes since yesterday said Colombo Zonal Education Office Director G N Silva. He made this statement during a media brief today (22). "Schools with less than 40% of teachers and 20% students arrived at their school premises both yesterday and today. Some classrooms were empty. But, we hope that by Monday this will be resolved and the teachers and students will return back to schools," said Silva. Meanwhile, Teachers and Principals Trade Unions island wide have continued their protests and conducted media briefs insisting on the salary anomalies to be resolved. Whereas, the Teacher and Principals Unions have confirmed last week that they would resume back to teaching duties on the 25th of October.
