45 at Kandy Perahera test positive

By our Kandy regional correspondent A total of 45 artists attached to a dance troupe which took part in the Kandy Esala Perahera have tested positive for Covid-19, according to health authorities. They have tested positive with the virus following rapid antigen tests (RATs) conducted on 76 artistes in the dance troupe which had participated in the Randoli Perahera. They have been removed from the Perahera and their close contacts have also been sent for quarantine. The final Randoli Perahera of the Esala Perahera festival paraded the streets yesterday (22). The Kandy Esala Perahera (the Sri Dalada Perahera procession of Kandy) also known as The Festival of the Tooth Relic, is a festival held annually during July and August in Kandy to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of Buddha, which is housed at the Sri Dalada Maligawa.
