Some 600-odd new recruits will be added by the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) as drivers, The Morning learnt.
SLTB Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka said that the recruitment will be done in the coming weeks.
“We have trained around 600 new drivers and we will be recruiting them in about a week or two.”
The new drivers had been training during the Covid-19 lockdown period.
“Now that their training has been completed, we can hire them to fill the driver shortage we have been suffering from.”
A shortage of bus drivers has resulted in fewer SLTB buses operating on the routes.
“Even now we are facing a shortage of passengers on long distance routes."600-odd SLTB bus drivers to be recruited
