700,000+ AstraZeneca doses on the way to SL

A consignment of 728,460 doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines donated by Japan under the COVAX facility will arrive in the country this evening (31), State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana stated.

The consignment will be arriving onboard SriLankan Airlines flight UL455. According to flight tracking website flightradar24.com, UL455 departed Tokyo’s Narita International Airport 18 minutes behind schedule and is estimated to arrive at the Bandaranaike International Airport at 4.27PM

This vaccine consignment has been made available by Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Tokyo, Sanjiv Gunasekara and his staff of the mission, who made numerous appeals and met with many Government Bureaucrats as well as politicians to convince the necessity.

The State Minister also said that a comparable amount of the same vaccine is expected to arrive in the country next Saturday (07). It was also noted that when administering these vaccines, priority will be given to those who have already received the first dose of AstraZeneca’s Covishield vaccine.

The remaining vaccines will be directed to the inoculation drive in Kegalle District.
