80kg blue sapphire cluster discovered
A blue sapphire cluster discovered in the Rakwana area of Ratnapura has been handed over to the National Gem and Jewellery Authority Authority.
The cluster is said to be approximately 80kg in weight.
Accordingly, the Authority is currently valuing the specimen which is said to be submitted for an international auction which is to be held in November.
This comes in the backdrop of the recent revelation of the discovery of the world’s largest star sapphire cluster which was found in a backyard in Ratnapura by accident.
Experts say the stone, which is pale blue in colour and 510kg in weight has an estimated value of up to $ 100 million in the international market.
