Speaking to The Morning yesterday, SPC General Manager K.M.D.R. Meanwhile, Dassanayake also confirmed that 185,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine would reach Sri Lanka by around 22 May. “We expect to receive another 400,000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine next month as well,” said Dassanayake. The National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) approved the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for emergency use in the country on 7 May. It is also one of the first jabs that were approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for emergency use against Covid-19. However, Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine is yet to be approved by the WHO for emergency use.
