Minister of Justice Thalatha Atukorale today announced that a second committee has been appointed to investigate the assault on a group of inmates at the Angunukolapelessa Prison.
"A committee was appointed and it is now investigating the actions of these prison guards and the footage that was released to the public. We are expecting a full report on their investigations by the end of next week," she stated.
Further she commented that this was a one off incident and that if such an incident took place before, the Ministry would have known, as CCTV cameras are in operation around the clock.
"The control center in which this footage is stored cannot be accessed by any random person and is constantly kept under lockdown, and therefore we are currently conducting further investigations into how this footage was leaked to the public."
