AG requests trial-at-bar for 6 Easter suspects

  Attorney General (AG), President’s Counsel (PC) Dappula de Livera has requested Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya PC to appoint a trial-at-bar in order to try six suspects involved in the Easter Sunday terror attacks. Accordingly, Mohammed Mufees, Mohammed Hamas, Ibrahim Mohammed Naufar, Mohammed Sajid, Ibrahim Sadeeq Abdullah, and Gaffoor Mama will be tried by a trial-at-bar. The now deceased Zahran Hashim and Mohammed Hasthun are also named to be tried. Indictments have also been filed by the AG at the Puttalam High Court against the aforementioned six suspects in connection with the collection of explosives and the maintenance of an explosive manufacturing base in Wanathawilluwa in January 2019. These indictments have been filed under the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act (PTA) and the Convention on the Suppression of Terrorist Financing Act as amended.
