AG sends indictments to CJ against 25 Easter Attacks suspects seeking Trial-at-Bar

Attorney General Sanjay Rajaratnam has sent indictments to Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya this afternoon (10) seeking the appointment of a Trial-at-Bar against 25 suspects indicted for conspiracy over the Easter Sunday terror attacks. According to reliable sources, The Morning learns that the suspects are to be tried before Court for 23,270 charges consisting of 9 volumes. Meanwhile, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) recently condemned the recent release of Ahmed Alawdeen, the father of Alawdeen Ahmed Muaath, who carried out the suicide bombing at St. Anthony’s Church in Kochchikade on 21 April 2019. Many including Archbishop of Colombo His Eminence Cardinal Malcom Ranjith, Opposition political party members, and civil society groups have expressed concerns and displeasure with the current investigation process and some findings mentioned in the PCoI report which was released during the first half of this year.
