Agriculture, Health & Education Ministries facing threat of militarisation: Stalin

11 Dec 2021

The Ceylon Teachers Union has expressed that the Ministries of Agriculture, Health and Education are facing the threat of militarisation.  Referring to the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) Bill, General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) Joseph Stalin said at a press conference yesterday (10) that there were massive protests in the country based on the fact that education in the country will be privatised and militarised. “Against such a backdrop, the President goes to the Kotelawala Defence University and says that higher education must be privatised and a methodology must be in place to earn foreign exchange through higher education in Sri Lanka,” he said. Additionally, Stalin drew attention towards the Government’s management of the Covid-19 pandemic. “We saw how the Health Ministers were changed, and the Army Commander was appointed to control the spread of Covid-19. Although it was fully militarised, was the pandemic curbed successfully?” Stalin questioned. In terms of the agriculture sector, it was expressed that impractical proposals were brought into the sector.  “The Government made the farmers take to the streets and completely destroy the agriculture sector. The reasons behind this are the wrong policies of this Government,” Stalin said in conclusion.
