Air Force inaugural Eagles’ Monsoon Cup Tees off in China Bay

02 Oct 2022

The Air Force organised the inaugural Eagles’ Monsoon Cup Annual Golf Tournament yesterday (1) at the China Bay Eagles’ Golf Link Club.  The inaugural tournament was initially scheduled to be played in 2020, but the Air Force struggled to hold the tournament due to Covid-19 and various other matters. Eighty-five participants, including 10 women and a few other foreign nationals took part in the 2022 tournament.  This is the second board event on the course. The major tournament played on the course is the Commander’s Cup which has been taking place annually since the opening of the course back in 2012. The main reason for the inauguration of the tournament is for players to have something to look forward to during the monsoon season.  The tournament was initiated by current Air Force Commander Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, who is also a dedicated golfer during his leisure time. The Eagles’ Golf Link course is known to be one of the toughest courses in the region, given its rating.  The participants fought for two trophies. One for the Eagles’ Monsoon Cup Open Championship and the other for the Eagles’ Monsoon Defence Challenge Trophy, which was only for serving members of Sri Lanka Tri Forces.  The tournament was played under the Stableford scoring system with a shotgun start.    – By Ranjika Perera from China Bay Eagles’ Golf Link
