Ajith Mannapperuma occupies Ranjan’s seat, Gazette notification issued

A gazette notification was issued a short while ago today (08) confirming that Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) member Ajith Mannapperuma, who contested the last general/parliamentary election from the Gampaha District along with SJB MP Ranjan Ramanayake, is to replace Ramanayake in Parliament following the latter losing his parliamentary seat.

Ramanayake is presently serving a four-year term of imprisonment after being sentenced by the Supreme Court (SC) upon conviction for contempt of court. He recently had the writ petition that he filed challenging the move to remove him from his parliamentary seat, following the Attorney General’s announcement that Ramanayake’s parliamentary seat will become vacant due to his conviction, rejected by the Court of Appeal.
