The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has no plans to contest at the next Presidential Election. However, it has members who are capable enough to represent the country as its leader, GMOA Member Dr. Naveen De Zoysa said.
Speaking to The Morning, he made it clear that he had never spoken about a particular person or named a person as the GMOA’s presidential candidate during an interview with a YouTube channel.
During the said interview, Dr. De Zoysa had been questioned about whether the GMOA was considering coming up with a candidate from the association for the next Presidential Election.
Dr. De Zoysa explained to The Morning: “My reply to that question was clear. I clearly said that if there is a request from the public, there are suitable candidates in the GMOA who can come forward to contest the Presidential Election. When the presenter asked if it was Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya, myself, or Dr. Haritha Aluthge who would be the next candidate, I said that we will present the best candidate when the time comes, and that every member is qualified to be the next presidential candidate.”
Several media reports have claimed that Dr. De Zoysa named Dr. Padeniya as the presidential candidate; however. speaking to The Morning, he refuted those reports and said that 99% of the members and not just 1% are eligible.
