All things crepe: Crepe Runner opens new cafe --

21 Apr 2021

Colombo’s favourite crepe joint, Crepe Runner, joins the iconic Marine Drive food hub with the grand opening of its fourth outlet available for takeaway and dine in. The Crepe Runner café, situated next to the Brandix corporate office, is conveniently located at the heart of Kollupitiya and is easily accessible through Marine Drive. Open Tuesday to Thursday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday to Sunday from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., customers can now enjoy phenomenal views of the ocean and witness epic sunsets all while feasting on the delectable range of sweet and savoury crepes Crepe Runner is famous for. [caption id="attachment_131130" align="alignleft" width="284"] Strawberry mojito[/caption] Speaking to Crepe Runner Founder Abdus Salaam on their story to success, he said: “Our story dates back to January 2019 when we started off with a simple food truck promising a revolutionary change to the food scene in Sri Lanka.” They were the first-ever food truck to offer sweet and savoury crepes in the streets of Colombo, with a capacity to serve 200-plus crepes a day. Due to overwhelming demand from their growing base of customers, Salaam explained that Crepe Runner opened two more outlets: A café in Galle Road, Mount Lavinia and an outlet at the Food Court of Cool Planet, Maharagama. The newest café down Marine Drive is their second biggest outlet to open. Recently, we were informed that Crepe Runner was awarded the merit award at the SLIM (Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing) Brand Excellence Awards 2020 under the category of Small Medium Enterprises for the brand’s rapid growth and success in the market, which is a given, taking into consideration what an absolute delight their food and drink are. The new outlet features several new additions to its menu alongside its signature range of sweet and savoury crepes. By popular demand, Crepe Runner’s latest addition includes loaded fries topped off with either spicy meat or melted cheese. Their range of beverages will now offer a variety of hot and cold coffees, coffee frappes, and hot chocolate. All items at Crepe Runner are made to order and made to perfection with guaranteed consistency throughout all outlets. Commenting on the launch of their latest outlet, Salaam added: “We are thrilled to launch our fourth outlet and second café within a very short span of just two years since we started. The business has continued to grow bigger over the years and we are so grateful for our loyal customers and our hard-working team.” [caption id="attachment_131131" align="alignright" width="367"] Strawberry and Nutella crepe[/caption] He further added that they started Crepe Runner with a food truck running on the very same Marine Drive in Bambalapitiya and that they are beyond excited to open their newest café on the same stretch to give their customers more of their favourite crepes. We actually had the opportunity to try some of their newer items, along with some crowd favourites. To start off, we were recommended the hot chocolate. As warm as it was outside, the cafe was cosy enough to remind one of a cold, rainy day where you sip on a hot chocolate, watching the ocean go by. The drink itself was an absolute delight. I would go as far as to name it one of the best hot chocolates in town; topped with a melting large strawberry marshmallow that adds an interesting flavour to the whole drink, the hot chocolate itself was a marvel of melted chocolate. Next up, we indulged in the strawberry and Nutella crepe from their classic crepe menu. The presentation for the crepe is spot on. It is adorned in a cardboard wrap, which helps one enjoy the crepe without having to worry about the melted Nutella that was oozing out and spilling on you. The crepe itself was crispy and sweet, and the strawberries added a hint of acidity that brought the whole crepe together. We also tried their chicken slayer crepe from their savoury menu range. It was again filled generously with cubes of chicken, seasoned to perfection, and topped with melted cheese. We must add that most of their crepes need to be consumed hot to get the maximum flavour out of them. We washed the crepes down with another refreshing crowd favourite – the strawberry mojito. The drink had little bits of strawberry in it, along with the usual mint leaves and ice, and was a godsend on such a hot day. It's chilled and refreshing and is guaranteed to wash away all the stress of your day. ims-of-the-suicide-attack-on-the-Zion-evangelical-Church-in-Batticaloa-on-21-April-2019-of-which-14-were-children
