  • Says was only talking of SLPP’s future polls-related plans
BY Safrah Fazal   The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has no intention of removing President Ranil Wickremesinghe and bringing former President and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa back, said SLPP MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage while speaking to The Morning yesterday (26). Aluthgamage made these remarks in response to a video of him being shared on social media, stating that the party intends to bring back a Government led by Mahinda Rajapaksa. “The crisis can be resolved completely by January or February of next year. Therefore, we intend to bring this country out of this crisis and bring back a new Government headed by Mahinda Rajapaksa,” Aluthgamage was heard stating while addressing a gathering recently. Speaking to The Morning, Aluthgamage stated that he made the statement at a party conference and was merely laying out the future plans of the SLPP. “We will be having the Local Governments and Provincial Councils Elections soon. So what I said was that in the upcoming Elections, the SLPP, with Mahinda Rajapaksa as the leader, will be contesting in the upcoming Elections.” Speaking further, Aluthgamage also said: “Under Rajapaksa’s leadership, we will be continuing our political journey. I did not mean that we will remove Wickremesinghe and bring back Mahinda Rajapaksa.”
