Diplomatic operations have been launched to confirm the identity of Maddumage Chandana Lasantha Perera, alias “Angoda Lokka”, who is reported to have died in India last month, according to Police Media Spokesman SSP Jaliya Senaratne.

He told The Morning that a local investigation would not be launched by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over the death of the underworld figure, noting that instead the Sri Lankan Government would assist the Government of India to confirm the identity of the underworld kingpin wanted by local police.

Indian media reported that Angoda Lokka (35) had been living in disguise in a rental house at Green Garden near Cheran Maa Nagar in Coimbatore till he died under questionable circumstances on the night of 3 July.

A woman named Amani Dhanji (27) from Sri Lanka had also stayed with him in Coimbatore since February 2020.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Angoda Lokka murdered Amani’s husband a few years ago and started to lead a life with her.
