The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has not been on the best of terms with National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader Wimal Weerawansa since the latter defected from the JVP over a decade ago.
However, JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Weerawansa seemed to be on the same side during a recent parliamentary party leaders’ meeting. The meeting was focused on discussing the allocation of time for ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) dissidents to speak in the House.
The issue was raised by Weerawansa at a party leaders’ meeting, noting that the ruling party needed to allocate time for SLPP MPs, including dissidents, to speak in Parliament. He had stated that it was undemocratic to not allocate time for MPs to speak in the House.
At this point, Dissanayake had also agreed with Weerawansa’s statement and had said that immediate action needed to be taken to ensure that SLPP dissidents are allocated time to speak in the House.
After much deliberation, it had been finally decided to allocate 5% of the total time allocated for the SLPP in the House to the SLPP dissidents.
