‘Aragalaya’ leader summoned by Police

16 Sep 2022

BY Dinitha Rathnayake    Black Cap Movement Convenor Vimukthi Dushantha, whose organisation actively participated in the “aragalaya” (struggle), has been summoned, without being informed of the reason, by the Kohuwala Police. Speaking to The Morning, Dushantha said that he was summoned to the said police station on Wednesday (14) and yesterday (15). “I was not informed of the reason to call on the Police, and therefore my lawyers have requested information from the Police.“ According to Dushantha, he has recently received several threats via anonymous phone calls. The Black Cap Movement, which was active in the “aragalaya”, decided to leave the “GotaGoGama” protest site in order to launch its next phase of the struggle, which he said was titled “aragalaya 4.0”. “Our main slogan at the ‘GotaGoGama’ was for then-President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to leave. Now he has gone,” he said. The intimidation and harassment of peaceful protestors, activists, and journalists by the State have continued, with the former being targeted for reprisals for their part in the “aragalaya”, he claimed.
