- Talks focus on strengthening ties and ME fallout
The US Special Representative for South and Central Asia and Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, met President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat last morning (19), with discussions centred on enhancing bilateral relations and addressing emerging global challenges.
During the meeting, both sides explored avenues to further strengthen cooperation between Sri Lanka and the United States, particularly in the context of evolving regional dynamics.
President Dissanayake also briefed the visiting delegation on Sri Lanka’s position regarding the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, highlighting the potential economic and energy-related challenges facing the country as a result of the crisis.
The meeting comes at a time when Sri Lanka is closely monitoring global developments amid concerns over fuel security and broader economic stability.
Also present at the discussions were Secretary to the President Dr Nandika Sanath Kumanayake; Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Dr Harshana Suriyapperuma; Senior Economic Adviser to the President Duminda Hulangamuwa; Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage; along with members of the US delegation.
