A star-studded knock by four down batter, S. Loronsohewa scoring a glorious 66 runs not out in 34 balls, including 3 fours and 5 sixes, steered Legends of Richmond to beat Lanka Cavaliers by 4 wickets in a Masters 30 overs Cricket encounter, sponsored by Deepal Ahangama for the Coconut Miracle Trophy, played on 26 January at the S. Thomas’ College grounds, Mount Lavinia.
Lanka Cavaliers batted first and openers S. Hewawasam and Wasanthalal Fernando added 18 runs.
Wasanthalal was the first batter to get dismissed and wickets started falling at regular intervals.
The only batters to get into double figures were S. Hewawasam (20), Johann Peiris (12), T. Karunarathne (25), Chaminda Rajapakshe (17), Renuka Nonis (32), and Mahesh Wijenayake (15 not-out), who took them past the 150th mark.
Lasantha De Silva and Dilshan Amarasinghe captured two wickets each, while T. Jayawardena, A. Sirimanne, P.A. Gunawardena, and U. Yatawara captured one wicket each. The team got them all out for 165 in 28.2 overs.
Legends of Richmond lost the first wicket at 20 runs on board and four more wickets fell at 24, 70, 86, and 97.
P.A. Gunawardena, joined by S. Loronsohewa, playing a supportive role, was finally dismissed scoring 6 runs in 20 balls at the score at 161 runs on board.
P. Ramanyake, joined by S. Loronsohewa together reached the winning total with nine balls to spare.
M. Iqram and N. Dabare took two wickets each, Chaminda Rajapakshe got a wicket and they were the pick of the bowlers.
