Opposition Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, who is in remand custody over alleged involvement in the Airbus deal, was further remanded yesterday (23) until 30 September by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court. The Court had been scheduled to deliver its order yesterday (23) on Rajapaksa’s bail application. 

However, the Magistrate directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to clarify several matters relating to the bail application and instructed the CID to present the relevant information to Court on 30 September. The Magistrate said that the Court would thereafter deliver its order on the bail application.

Rajapaksa, who was arrested and subsequently remanded, had been produced before the Court yesterday. He was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption on 4 September after recording a statement following several hours of questioning in connection with the controversial Airbus transaction.
