Farmers and estate managers in the Nuwara Eliya region are facing severe challenges due to heavy rains combined with early morning frost. 

The frost has caused significant damage to tea plantations, with leaves drying up and reducing overall yields, according to estate managers. 

Vegetable farmers are actively working to wash frost off their crops before sunset to prevent further burning and loss. 

The Department of Meteorology recorded a temperature drop to 7.4°C during the early hours of January 21, intensifying the frost conditions in the highland agricultural areas. 

Authorities have urged farmers to remain vigilant and implement protective measures as unpredictable weather patterns continue to impact the region’s agriculture.
