A major nationwide security operation was launched on May 5 to ensure a peaceful Local Government (LG) election, Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa announced.

The operation includes 3,216 mobile patrol units and 65,000 police officers—the largest election security deployment in recent years.

Military support will be provided if needed, depending on the security situation.
