A low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal to the south-east of Sri Lanka today(16), the Department of Meteorology stated.

Heavy showers or thundershowers, strong winds of 50–60 kmph, and rough to very rough seas are expected in the area.

The Department noted that it is continuously monitoring the system.

Naval and fishing communities have been advised to follow future forecasts and bulletins.
