India will donate 22 advanced MI0 train engines and spare parts to the Department of Railways, along with five years of maintenance services. 

The Cabinet approved the proposal from India's RITES company on 11 June 2024. 

Sri Lankan personnel will handle the maintenance, with the donation facilitated by the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation.
