Special three day dengue control program launched in Colombo

The National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) of the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced the launch of a special three-day dengue suppression program starting today (24) in the Colombo Municipality areas. 


The initiative aims to target regions with higher dengue incidence through intensive control activities.


Acting Director of the NDCU, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, stated that teams comprising Public Health Inspectors, community police units, and other groups will be actively involved in the campaign to curb the spread of dengue.


Colombo district reports the highest number of dengue cases in the country,

with 889 cases recorded so far this year within the Colombo Municipal Council area.


Overall, Sri Lanka has reported a total of 12,165 dengue patients to date this year.


Dr. Kannangara also highlighted that besides Colombo, significant outbreaks are reported in Matara, Galle, and Kandy, emphasising the need for continued vigilance and community cooperation in dengue prevention efforts.
