A Committee of Inquiry has been appointed to investigate the unrest at Negombo Prison on 5 and 6 July.
The committee was appointed by the Secretary to the President with Cabinet approval to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and submit a report.
Retired Supreme Court Judge Priyantha Fernando will chair the committee, with Additional Solicitor General and President’s Counsel Milinda Gunatilake and President’s Counsel Mohan Weerakoon serving as members.
Senior Assistant Secretary to the President K.L.D. Asela has been appointed Secretary and Convener of the committee.
